Abstract

Guru Bimbingan atau konselor adalah seseorang yang bertanggung jawab memberikan bimbingan dan konseling di sekolah secara sadar ke arah pengembangan kepribadian dan kemampuan siswa baik jasmani maupun rohani agar siswa mampu hidup mandiri dan memenuhi berbagai tugas perkembangannya sebagai makhluk Tuhan di samping makhluk individu dan makhluk sosial, moral, agama, dan budaya. Konseling adalah upaya membantu individu melalui proses interaksi personal antara konselor dan konselor agar konselor mampu memahami diri sendiri dan lingkungannya, mampu mengambil keputusan, dan menentukan tujuan berdasarkan nilainilai yang diyakininya sehingga konselor merasa bahagia dan efektif dalam perilakunya. Bimbingan Konseling berada pada posisi kunci dalam sebuah lembaga pendidikan, yaitu lembaga sekolah, sebagai penunjang maju atau mundurnya mutu pendidikan. Peran bimbingan dan konseling dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan tidak hanya terbatas pada bimbingan akademik tetapi juga bimbingan personal, sosial, intelektual, dan pemberian nilai.
